Winter is a perfect time to try something new and exciting that will keep you in shape without forcing you to freeze. Whether you’re someone who enjoys their physical fitness or wants to get started, don’t let the colder months force you to hibernate. This is the perfect time to get active! We have some winter workouts that will keep you healthy, fit and ready to show your improvements off in the summer.
Spin cycling is one of the best cardio exercises you can do. Not only are you building up a sweat in a quick period of time, you are also working multiple muscle groups, which will burn fat very quickly. If you’re a guy who wants bigger calves or a girl who wants some abs, this winter workout is for you. If you’re worried about committing to it alone, most gyms have spin cycle classes that you can sign up for and take with other people. So, what are you waiting for?
You don’t have to be Michael Phelps to get a good workout in the pool. Swimmers are often regarded as athletes with some of the lowest body fat percentages. This is no surprise; swim laps pretty hard for 15 minutes and you’ll understand why it can be such a task. What’s stopping you this winter? Whether you are swimming for fun or training hard, you’re bound to shed body fat if you just take the plunge!
This one’s a doozy, but hear us out. Ice skating is not that difficult; we’re not asking you to be a pro, just give it a shot. Find a local ice skating rink that offers public skating, rent some skates, and give it a shot. Take it slow at first, and gradually work your way up to where you are able to skate around in circles. Just like swimming, 15 minutes of fast skating will make you sweat quicker than you’d think. Again, great for your legs, abs and is different than running. Besides, who doesn’t want to test the limits and see how fast they can go?
Box It Up
Wouldn’t it be cool to train like Rocky, Floyd Mayweather or Conor McGregor? Boxing is one of the best winter workouts you can do. Heck, we’d say it’s one of the better full body workouts available. Most gyms will have a bag for anyone to use, you’ll just have to provide your own gloves. Remember, you don’t want to lean in and hit the bag, you want to strike it at full reach. This will prevent soreness in your wrists. Improper use can lead to injuries, so make sure you’re using it the correct way.
Barre Class or Yoga
Don’t worry guys, this one’s for you too. Anytime you can get yourself moving for extended periods of time, your workout is going to be a success. Barre combines elements of yoga and pilates, which will keep you moving and stretching muscles you didn’t know you had. Even the most elite athletes have done versions of barre, pilates or yoga at some point.
